Early Sapping Season

It's been an early maple syrup season here at Slattengren Farms. An early freeze-thaw cycle in the weather translated to an collecting sap about two weeks ahead of schedule. Sap flows from maple trees for a brief period during the spring. Certain conditions are re quired in order to collect sap. The temperature needs to freeze during the night and thaw sufficeinty during the day. Ideally, we hope for a light freeze in the mid 20s followed by a sunny day with a temperature in the mid 40s (Faherenheit).

Though the work is laborious, we have a lot of great helpers!
